Work Paused at New Buffalo Bills Stadium to Investigate Possible Hate Symbol

Construction work at the site of the new Buffalo Bills stadium was temporarily halted this week following a report of a potential hate symbol discovered onsite. The construction management company, Gilbane | Turner, suspended work, notified police, and launched an internal investigation to address the matter.

In a statement, Gilbane | Turner emphasized their commitment to a work environment free from bias and hate, stating, “We do not tolerate any act of bias or hate.”

The company’s initial investigation concluded that the symbol in question was not indicative of hate. Orchard Park police also reported that no criminal activity had occurred and that the perceived symbol was not placed with "malicious intent." With this information, police concluded their investigation.

As of Wednesday afternoon, a live feed from the construction site from Buffalo Stadium Live showed no workers present. The new stadium, which is being built across the street from the Bills' current facility, is anticipated to be completed in time for the 2026 NFL season.

Gilbane | Turner reiterated their stance against racism and hate in a publicly released statement, “We maintain zero tolerance for racism and hate. We will continue to collaborate with our trade partners and unions to make it clear to every person on site the importance of having a work environment where all people feel welcomed, respected, and safe.”
