A woman has been accused of causing the death of her dog Eleanor by leaving it in a scorching hot car in Orchard Park. Joy A. Bickert, 49, pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor and a violation of the state Agriculture and Markets Law in Orchard Park Town Court on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred on June 21st when Bickert took the dog, a 2-year-old mixed-breed bulldog named Eleanor, to a veterinarian in the Village of Hamburg at approximately 3:30pm. Prosecutors say that the dog was left inside a parked vehicle with its windows closed for several hours on Southwestern Boulevard.
According to the National Weather Service the temperature reached a high of 93 degrees. After just one hour in the vehicle at that temperature, it would feel like 136 degrees inside of the vehicle.
Bickert was released without bail and is scheduled to appear in court again on September 17th.
