On Thursday, September 12th, 2024, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Accident Investigation Unit responded to State Road in the Town of Royalton to assist the Village of Middleport Police Department with a motor vehicle crash investigation.

Initial investigation at the scene revealed that a 2013 Chrysler sedan was west bound on State Road when it moved from the lane of travel onto the north road shoulder. As the vehicle began to exit the shoulder and enter the grass area north of the roadway, it struck the right rear corner of a water tanker truck that was parked, unoccupied, on the road shoulder.

The Chrysler continued traveling down the right side of the water tanker truck where it next struck a construction worker who had been seated on the grass next to the truck. The Chrysler then made contact with a pump trailer that was parked on the grass north of the truck.

A second construction worker who had been standing on the trailer on the time, was knocked down onto the floorboard of the trailer. The Chrysler came to rest wedged between the water tanker truck and pump trailer.

The operator of Chrysler sedan was uninjured. The construction worker that was struck while seated was flown by Mercy Flight to ECMC for treatment to neck and back pain. The construction worker who had been standing on the trailer was transported by ambulance to ECMC for treatment to complaints similar in nature.

The names of the parties involved are being withheld at this time pending notification to family. Investigation by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office into the crash is continuing.
