A Heartbreaking Loss: UB Student Killed by Drunk Driver

The University at Buffalo (UB) community is mourning the loss of 18-year-old Maria Eichas, an engineering student who was killed in a fatal car accident earlier this month. Maria was rear-ended by a drunk driver in Parma, resulting in her untimely death.

The Monroe County District Attorney's Office has announced that 33-year-old Alexander Hackett has been charged with felony vehicular manslaughter in connection with Maria's death. This devastating incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of drunk driving and the devastating consequences it can have on innocent lives.

Maria's family is now left to cope with the unimaginable loss of their beloved daughter. In response to this tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to provide support and assistance to Maria's grieving family during this difficult time. The campaign aims to alleviate some of the financial burdens they may face as they navigate through this heartbreaking ordeal. The Monroe County District Attorney's Office is taking swift action in prosecuting this case. Assistant District Attorney Raymond Benitez, Chief of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau, is leading the prosecution efforts to ensure that justice is served for Maria and her family.

The loss of Maria Eichas has sent shockwaves through the University at Buffalo community and beyond. Her promising future as an engineering student has been cut short due to the reckless actions of a drunk driver.
