A couple from Clarence has been arraigned following the discovery of a dog with untreated stab wounds and two other neglected animals at their home, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.
On December 26th, New York State Police conducted a welfare check on Northfield Road where they reportedly found a dog suffering from untreated stab wounds to its neck and abdomen. Additionally, a puppy was discovered with an untreated eye injury while another dog was found without access to food or water.
In total, investigators seized six dogs and two cats from the residence due to the conditions in which they were living.
Brittany Farley, 28, faces multiple charges including two counts of overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals, as well as failure to provide proper sustenance and one count of aggravated cruelty to animals. Her partner, Nicholas Hatswell, 26, has been charged with two counts of overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals and failure to provide proper sustenance.
Both individuals were released on their own recognizance and are expected to return to court next month. A temporary order prohibiting them from having any animals has been issued. If convicted, Farley could face up to two years in prison while Hatswell faces a year behind bars.
