Troopers Injured in Arrest of Newfane Man Who Allegedly Fired BB Gun at Residence

In a dramatic turn of events, New York State police have apprehended a Newfane man who allegedly engaged in a confrontation with law enforcement / troopers after firing a BB gun at a neighboring residence. The incident, which took place on Wednesday afternoon, resulted in injuries to both the suspect and the troopers involved.

The incident unfolded on East Avenue at approximately 2:45pm when authorities received reports of shots being fired. Upon arriving at the scene, police identified the suspect as 33-year-old Anthony Zarrillo. It was revealed that Zarrillo had been discharging rounds from a BB gun prompting the homeowner of the adjacent residence to confront him.


Alleged threats were made during the confrontation, prompting the homeowner to contact the authorities. As troopers attempted to interview Zarrillo he reportedly became combative, escalating the situation further.

Despite the challenges faced during the arrest, Zarrillo was eventually taken into custody. However, both he and the officers involved sustained injuries during the process according to the New York State police.


"Troopers sustained sprained shoulder, contusions, and lower back strain. Zarrillo had a broken clavicle," stated a spokesperson for the New York State police.

Following the arrest, Zarrillo and the injured officers were promptly transported to Lockport Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, Zarrillo now faces multiple charges including resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, obstruction of governmental administration, criminal mischief, and two counts of assault. He is currently being held at the Niagara County Jail awaiting arraignment.
