In a devastating incident on Friday morning, a massive tree crashed through a residence in the Town of Castile, Wyoming County, resulting in the loss of one life and leaving another individual injured. The Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services reported that the tree was of an "extremely large" size causing significant damage to the house.

Emergency officials swiftly responded to the scene at 3925 Thompson Ave. after receiving a distress call at approximately 10:10am. Upon arrival, they were met with the sight of a partially collapsed home and two individuals trapped inside. It was later revealed that the victims were guests staying at the residence through Airbnb.

Tragically, one of the victims was pronounced dead at the Wyoming County Community Health System. The identity of the deceased has not been released at this time. The second victim, who sustained injuries from the incident, was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital and is currently receiving medical treatment.

In response to the severity of the damage, officials have decided to proceed with an emergency demolition of the affected house on Friday night. This decision was made to ensure the safety of the surrounding area and to facilitate the necessary cleanup and restoration efforts.

Utility companies, including NYSEG and RGE, along with local villages, towns, and tree removal companies, are expected to collaborate in clearing the area and restoring power.

The Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services has initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the tree collapse. Factors such as weather conditions, tree health, and structural integrity will be thoroughly examined to shed light on this tragic event. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and loved ones affected by this heartbreaking incident.
