The Niagara Falls community is mourning the loss of Yolanda Yvette Carr, a mother, friend and loved one, who tragically lost her life in a hit-and-run incident early Monday morning. Carr was riding an e-bike on 22nd Street and Niagara Avenue when the incident occurred. Her devastated son, Dayqjuan Posey, spoke out about his mother's untimely death, describing her as an amazing woman.
According to Posey, Carr was on her way home, which is just a few blocks away from where the accident took place. She almost made it.
Posey recounted the heartbreaking moment when he received the news of his mother's passing. "I heard someone knocking on my door," he said. "Unfortunately, it was that knock that nobody wants to get, that a loved one is no longer with us."
Posey shared that his mother worked at the Seneca One Casino and was pursuing her dream of becoming a chef. He fondly remembered their last interaction where he showed her his new truck and they had a heartfelt conversation.
"She said she was proud of me, she loved me, and she couldn't wait to see the kids the next day. Unfortunately, that didn't happen," Posey said.
Despite the tragedy, he cherishes the memory of their last meeting. Carr was a loving grandmother to nine grandchildren, and Posey emphasized her amazing personality. "She was amazing," he said. "She's up to date with everything going on. She was one of those hip moms. Everybody knows her as being a cool parent."
Posey expressed his determination to stay strong for his family and expressed disbelief that someone could leave his mother lying on the ground after the accident.
"Once you leave the scene, it's no longer a mistake. It's a choice," he said. "You're making that choice to not be a good person."
The Niagara Falls community is rallying together to support Posey and his family during this difficult time. Authorities are actively investigating the hit-and-run incident and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The loss of Yolanda Yvette Carr has left a void in the lives of those who knew and loved her, and her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
