Niagara Falls Police responded to the Wyndham Garden Hotel on the 400 block of Main Street around 6:30pm on October 13th after reports of a larceny.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to the complainant and his wife who stated they had checked into the hotel and, around 4:20pm, decided they wanted to go out and explore the city as they are not from the area. The parties had just been married the previous night and had about $3,000 cash and $1,300 in checks on them.
The room did not have a safe so the husband put the money into a Croc shoe and stuffed it with socks. He then put it inside a pink bag and they departed the room.
When they arrived back around 5:30pm their key card did not work. Hotel staff advised them that his name was attached to a different room than he one they had been in. The parties explained this was not the case and that there was a pink bag in the room. Hotel staff accompanied them to the room where they found the bag. However, there was no money inside.
Hotel staff explained that the machine to discover who accessed to the room was "broken" and could not be utilized at this time. There was no sign of forced entry into the room, which means whoever entered had a key card. Officers noted in the official incident report that the hotel was going to perform their own investigation. However, there was no mention if any surveillance footage was available.
Police do not have any suspects. No further information is available at this time.
