Toddler Dies from Drug Toxicity in Niagara Falls, Woman Charged

(Niagara Falls, ON) A 40-year-old woman has been charged following the death of a toddler who was found without vital signs in a home last year. The incident occurred on November 21st, 2023, when Niagara Regional Police responded to a call at the residence and discovered the two-year-old child.

An autopsy revealed that the child died from toxicity related to fentanyl and bromazolam, a drug belonging to the benzodiazepine family that is not prescribed in Canada. Authorities have noted that bromazolam has been found mixed with the region's illegal fentanyl supply.

The suspect was arrested on Monday and faces multiple charges including criminal negligence causing death, failing to provide the necessaries of life, and various drug offenses. Police have chosen not to publicly disclose the suspect's name at this time.
