The journey to gain historic landmark status for the Native American Center for the Living Arts in Niagara Falls, also known as 'The Turtle', is nearing fruition.
During a recent meeting at City Hall, the Niagara Falls Historic Preservation Committee unanimously decided to forward a recommendation to the Niagara Falls City Council that 'The Turtle', located on Rainbow Boulevard, should receive this honor.
Niagara Falls Redevelopment, LLC owns the site. Should it receive landmark status, the building, operational from 1981 to 1995, will have to be kept in its current state and cannot be altered or demolished without approval from the preservation committee.
