A 19-year-old individual is facing a series of felony charges after allegedly attempting to enter the United States through the Peace Bridge in Buffalo using a stolen vehicle and a fake identity. The incident unfolded on Thursday.
According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protections agency (CBP), the suspect arrived at the Peace Bridge driving a 2012 Toyota Scion registered in New York State. However, when questioned by officers he provided them with a false name.
The situation took a turn when a license plate scan revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen. CBP immediately detained the 19-year-old and transferred him to a secondary inspection area for further investigation. During the process, it was confirmed that the suspect is a U.S. citizen, but the car he was driving had indeed been reported stolen in Buffalo.
In collaboration with the Buffalo Police Department, CBP handed over both the suspect and the stolen vehicle to the local authorities. The teenager now faces multiple charges including criminal possession of stolen property, criminal mischief, and criminal impersonation. The suspect's name is unknown at this time.
