Target on Niagara Falls Blvd. Closed Indefinitely, Sprinkler System Causes $25,000+ Damage

Suspect Strangles Woman with Golf Club, Threatens Police with Knife

The Target store on Niagara Falls Boulevard has been forced to close indefinitely following an incident involving its sprinkler system. Amherst Police announced on Friday that the sprinkler system was unexpectedly activated throughout the store resulting in an estimated $25,000 worth of damage.

Both the fire alarm and sprinkler system were triggered, resulting in Amherst Fire responding to the scene. Emergency crews arrived and confirmed that there was no active fire and no previous fire incidents had occurred prior to the sprinkler system.

Amherst Fire Control shut down the alarm and sprinkler systems, which included closing the store. The indefinite closure is necessary to allow for the cleanup of water damage and sprinkler system repair.

Authorities have not released any further information regarding the cause of the sprinkler system activation or the timeline for reopening the store.
