SUV Driver Extricated, Rescued After Rear-Ending Semitruck in Amherst

A driver of an SUV was injured on Saturday after his vehicle collided with the rear of a semitruck at the intersection of Sheridan Drive and North Forest Road in Amherst. The Amherst Police Department reported that officers responded to the accident at approximately 1:45pm.

According to a spokesperson for the Amherst Police Department, the SUV driver, identified as a 42-year-old man from Williamsville, had to be extricated from his vehicle. Emergency responders from the Snyder Fire Department worked diligently to free the trapped driver. Once freed, the driver was immediately transported to Erie County Medical Center by Twin City Ambulance. Fortunately, his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.

In contrast, the driver of the semitruck emerged from the collision unscathed. The police confirmed that the truck driver did not sustain any injuries during the incident.


The Amherst Police Department is currently investigating the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that the SUV rear-ended the semitruck, but further details regarding the circumstances leading up to the collision have not been released at this time.

The scene of the accident was secured by the Amherst Police Department with assistance from the Snyder Fire Department. Their prompt response and coordinated efforts ensured the safety of all individuals involved and helped to mitigate any potential hazards resulting from the collision.
