Niagara Falls Police responded to the 2600 block of Welch Avenue around 10:30am on June 5th after reports of a suspect(s) breaking into a vehicle and attempting to set it on fire.
Upon arrival, police spoke to the complainant who stated that his vehicle, which was parked in the alley by his garage, had the front passenger window smashed out. The complainant further stated the last time he saw the vehicle without any damage was May 28th. He also told police a screwdriver and matches were found outside the vehicle along with the distinct odor of gasoline emanating from inside the vehicle.
Officers observed the screwdriver and a small box of matches outside the vehicle on the ground. Officers also smelled a strong odor of gasoline coming from inside the vehicle. Noted in the police report was that stains were clearly visible on the dashboard where it looked like gasoline was poured. The complainant also told police that he found a bottle of juice in the backseat that does not belong to him, which was collected as evidence.
Law enforcement processed the scene. There are no known suspects. No further information is available.
