Niagara Falls Police were engaged in routine patrol around 11pm on August 19th along Niagara Falls Blvd. when officers observed a white Camaro approach from behind and pass them at a high rate of speed. The patrol vehicle moved behind the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop based on going 56mph in a 40mph zone, but the vehicle did not pull over.
Officers were unable to get a complete license plate read due to a dark license plate cover on the rear of the vehicle and could only read the last four digits. Officers followed the vehicle east down Niagara Falls Blvd. but were unable to catch up due to the vehicle’s high rate of speed and the threat to public safety if there was to be a chase.
After the attempted stop, officers were able to identify and visually confirm who was operating the vehicle at the time of the attempted stop based on the partial plate read.
However, it was Instagram that solved the investigation. According to the report his Instagram handle was on the back window. Officers looked him up and the Instagram page was full of images of the vehicle.
Officers went to the suspect’s address on 77th Street where the vehicle was sitting in the driveway. The male spoke with officers and stated that he was driving the vehicle but that he did not see them attempting to conduct a traffic stop.
The 21-year-old white male was issued several vehicle and traffic tickets including reckless driving, right of way violation, failure to yield, obstructed vision of a license plate, unsafe turn/fail to signal, and moved from lane unsafely. No further information is available at this time.
