Suspect Arrested in Niagara Falls Hit-and-run Incident, Victim in Critical Condition at ECMC


On August 31, 2024, Traffic Officers from the Niagara Falls Police Department's Crash Investigation Unit continued to investigate the hit & run crash from 22nd Street & Willow Avenue. Based upon information from multiple witnesses, Daniel KT Wijesiriwardena Age 19, was arrested and is being charged with multiple felonies.


Wijesiriwardena is being held in custody and is being arraigned in Niagara Falls City Court on Sunday September 1st. The victim is still in critical condition in the Trauma ICU at ECMC. His name is continuing to be withheld at the request of the family.




ORIGINAL RELEASE

On August 30, 2024, at approximately 8:38 pm, Niagara Falls Police responded to a call of a bicyclist down in the road at 22nd St. and Willow Ave. At the scene, officers discovered a 43-year-old Niagara Falls man with serious injuries.



It appears the bicyclist was traveling south on 22nd St. when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle on Willow Ave. The striking vehicle fled the scene without stopping.


The victim was transported to Erie County Medical Center, where he is currently in critical but stable condition.
