According to Buffalo Police, a student was stabbed at McKinley High School on Monday, September 9th prompting an immediate response from law enforcement and first responders. At approximately 1:10pm police arrived at the scene and discovered a 15-year-old male student had been stabbed by another student within the school. He was in critical condition.
The injured student was transported to Oishei Children's Hospital where he remains in critical condition, but is expected to survive.
During a press conference, Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia provided further details about the incident. He stated that the male student had been stabbed three times - once in the neck, once in the back, and once in the arm.
Gramaglia also revealed that the victim and the two individuals involved in the incident were the same individuals involved in another stabbing that occurred in July near Fountain Plaza on Main Street. The 15-year-old victim had also been stabbed during the summer incident.
According to Gramaglia, the incident took place during a fight on a stairwell between classes. A security officer intervened, ending the attack. The other two individuals proceeded to a classroom on the third floor where they were apprehended by the police. The knife used in the attack was recovered as evidence.
Gramaglia expressed uncertainty about how the knife managed to bypass McKinley High School's weapons detection system, which is concerning. An investigation is ongoing. The ages and charges against the two students involved will be released upon their arrest.
