'Slap in the face' - Man Sentenced for Fatal Crash Resulting in 15-year-old Girl's Death

Justin T. Trane, a 30-year-old resident of Hamburg, has been sentenced for his involvement in a tragic two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl in 2023, according to the Erie County District Attorney's office. Trane was handed a six-month jail sentence, followed by five years of probation.

The incident occurred on the evening of August 20th, 2023, at the intersection of Quinby Drive and McKinley Parkway in Hamburg. Trane, operating a van, disregarded a red light and collided with a car driven by 18-year-old Dylan Wiza of Williamsville. Tragically, a 15-year-old girl who was a passenger in Wiza's vehicle lost her life as a result of the crash. Another 16-year-old girl in the car sustained injuries and was treated at Oishei Children's Hospital.

Investigations later revealed that Trane was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. In May, he pleaded guilty to one count of vehicular manslaughter. In addition to his jail time and probation, Trane's driver's license has been revoked. If his license is reinstated in the future, he will be required to have an ignition interlock device installed for one year.

Meanwhile, Dylan Wiza, who was found to be under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash, also pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter in May. His sentencing is scheduled for October 3. The community mourns the loss of the 15-year-old girl and extends its deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.
