Niagara Falls Police responded to the 1900 block of Buffalo Avenue around 7pm on September 2nd after hearing gunshots. An officer was parked nearby and repositioned more towards 19th and Buffalo Avenue where the shots were coming from.
Once at 19th street and Buffalo Avenue he heard several more shots. Dispatch was advised to send additional units as there were "numerous" continuing shots on the railroad tracks.
The lone officer on-scene exited his vehicle and grabbed a department-issued rifle. He moved to the wood line and observed several males exit the railroad tracks and move through the high weeds toward his location.
The officer approached closer giving the males verbal commands to get down on the ground. The front two suspects laid on their stomachs and were detained. Several males failed to comply. They turned around and ran back towards the railroad tracks.
Responding officers were able to set up a perimeter where four additional suspects were detained. Altogether, a “large quantity” of shell casings were found on the railroad tracks.
New York State Parks Police and ATF K9 handlers responded to the area to assist with locating the suspected firearms. The incident report did not state how many, if any, were recovered.
All suspects were transported to police headquarters for booking and processing. No further information is available at this time.
