A Niagara Falls Police officer was working secondary employment at Walmart on Military Road around 9:45pm on September 23rd when asset protection advised him of a shoplifter in the store. The asset protection employee said that they had actively been surveilling him as he selected items from shelves and placed them inside bags he brought into the store with him.
The male did go through a manned register (as opposed to self-checkout), but only paid for a bottle of soda. He then passed all points of purchase and was walking through the home and garden vestibule when he was arrested.
The male was taken to the security office where he was processed. In total, he had a total of 25 stolen items valuing $190.89 in his cart that were not paid for. How the employee who was cashing him out did not question the bags full of merchandise is unknown.
The male was released on an appearance ticket returnable to Niagara Falls City Court and released. All stolen merchandise was returned to Walmart. No further information is available at this time.
