Shoplifter Hospitalized After Police Use Force to Subdue Him

Niagara Falls Police responded to Walmart on Military Road around 10:30pm on January 10th after a request to assist a Niagara County Sheriffs Deputy with a shoplifter.

Upon arrival, officers were directed to the asset protection office where the deputy already had the male suspect detained. The suspect was standing in the corner of the room arguing with the deputy.

The suspect was advised that he was under arrest for shoplifting at which point he became irate and stated he was going to leave the room. Due to his aggressive behavior, officers approached him and attempted to place him in handcuffs.

The suspect immediately tensed his arms and began to pull away. He was given multiple commands to place his hands behind his back which he refused and continued to flail his arms and legs.

After using force to subdue him, officers were able to place the suspect in handcuffs. He was escorted out of the building and placed in the rear of a patrol vehicle.

AMR was requested after the male reported head pain due to the force used by officers. He was transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

He was charged with resisting arrest and issued an appearance ticket. No further information is available at this time.
