Niagara Falls Police were dispatched to Five Below on Military Road around 1:30pm on July 24th after reports of a male shoplifter who had left the store and was walking in front of Petco.
Upon arrival, police saw a male with numerous bags and two pop-up tents walking slowly down 80th Street matching the description relayed by dispatch. The male refused to stop for officers when first asked and kept walking. He was asked again to stop and, after hesitating, complied and placed all bags on the ground. At this point he was taken into custody.
The male refused to give his name or any other information to officers but was positively identified as the shoplifter when brought back to Five Below. According to the manager, the male stole two pop-up tents and a duffel bag which were valued at $40.
The male was transported to police headquarters for booking and processing. He continued to refuse to provide officers with his name and was booked as “John Doe.” His fingerprints were sent to Albany and there was a positive identification. Now knowing his name, officers found a warrant for failure to appear out of Niagara Falls City Court.
