A Niagara Falls Police officer was working off-duty security at Walmart around 10:30pm on December 16th when he was notified by an employee of a shoplifting in progress.
According to the employee, a female was concealing items in her cart and passed all points of purchase in an attempt to leave the store. The officer and Walmart employee approached the female. Several items were located in her cart that she did not pay for. She was then escorted to the loss prevention office.
While walking back to the office, she stated, “I messed up. I’m not even supposed to be here.” When asked what she meant, the female explained that she had been caught stealing from Walmart before and was banned.
Overall, six items were located on her person and in the shopping cart that were not paid for totaling $44.91. A trespass notice was located for the female. She was placed in handcuffs.
The female then asked if she could look through her purse to see if she had woman’s hygiene products prior to being taken to jail. A detective who arrived on scene checked her purse for weapons and did locate a container with a white substance.
Upon being asked what the substance was, the female said it was salt and that she “eats it.” The contents were secured and will be sent to the Niagara County Forensics Lab for testing. No further information is available at this time.
