Niagara Falls Police were dispatched to City Hall around 5pm on January 6th after reports of an assault in progress involving a security guard.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to the security guard who stated that the male suspect came in after hours through the back door attempting to pay a bill. The guard advised the suspect that the building was closed and he would need to leave immediately.
The suspect became irate, refused to leave, and then began to attack the guard. At one point, the suspect put both of his hands around the guards neck and applied pressure making it so he was unable to breathe.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for booking and processing. He was held in a holding cell to await arraignment.
According to information received by officers, this was not the first altercation between the suspect and City Hall staff as he is known to become aggressive with staff. However, this is the first reported physical altercation. No further information is available at this time.
