Psych Patient Punches Nurse in the Face in Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls Police responded to the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center around 11am on October 18th after reports of a mental that was later changed to an assault.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to a female employee at the hospital. She was working in the psych evaluation center when one of the male patients became irate and attacked another employee. The patient had threatened one of the doctors at the hospital as well.

The doctor and employee were attempting to medicate the patient when he struck the employee in the nose with a closed first causing a large laceration and significant loss of blood.

Officers approached the patient to detain him while hospital staff sedated the male. He became irate and kicked a female employee in the abdomen who was assisting. The employee did not want to press charges.

The patient was placed on a restraint bed in the psych ER. Officers then spoke to a male nurse at the hospital. He stated at approx. 9:15am he was assisting a doctor with a patient when the patient started threatening the doctor.

The doctor asked for him to get the restraint cart and, while he was getting it, the patient approached him and struck him with a closed fist. He was taken into another room in the ER for treatment. The nurse wished to press charges.

The arrest has not taken place as the patient was being held at the hospital. No further information is available at this time.
