Police find Drunk Driver Asleep at Wheel after Smashing into another Vehicle

Niagara Falls Police were dispatch to a motor vehicle accident at Seneca One Stop around 3am on January 15th.

Upon arrival, officers observed a blue Mazda making contact with the rear of a white Buick with damage to the front of the Mazda. Officers observed a male to be asleep at the wheel.

Officers attempted to wake the driver who had the vehicle still in drive. He was unresponsive initially, but eventually came to.

The driver was instructed to put the window down and put the vehicle in park, but he put the wrong window down. When he did open the window, officers observed him to be conscious and responsive but unaware of where he was. He initially gave off a slight odor of alcoholic beverage.

The driver insisted that he did not drive or hit the car. He was unable to put his sandals back on his first attempt and struggled multiple times. He was unable to form logical statements.

The driver was administered standard field sobriety tests and failed all of them. However, he blew a 0.00 when administered a breathalyzer. Police attributed this to the time between alcohol consumption at the test. He was read his Miranda warnings and placed under arrest.

While police were transporting him to the police station, the driver stated that he wanted to speak to the officer without a lawyer. He did admit while in booking that he was under the influence of Suboxone, further stating that he deserved what was happening and was “fuc*ing fuc*ed up man.”

The driver’s license was revoked years prior due to three DWAI convictions since 2016. He was arrested, booked, and processed. No further information is available at this time.
