Police, Emergency Services Respond to Hazmat Incident at New York Power Authority

Inmate Lunges for Niagara County Sheriff Officer's Gun, Intent was to Escape Custody

A hazmat incident at the New York Power Authority on Monday morning led to a rapid response from local emergency services after an employee reported feeling nauseous upon opening a package. The Town of Niagara Police received the call around 9:06am.

Upon arrival, officials from the Niagara County Emergency Management team, the Niagara County Fire Coordinators Office, New York State Police, and Mercy Emergency Medical Services assessed the situation. The employee's symptoms raised concerns leading to on-site testing of the package that had been opened.

The Niagara Falls Reserve Fire Hazmat team was called in to evaluate the contents of the package. After a careful examination, they determined that it posed no threat to the facility or its employees. Fortunately, no further issues were reported.

Authorities have not released specific details about the package or the condition of the affected employee.
