Police Chase Results in Arrest after Driver Traps himself on Dead-end Street

Niagara Falls Police were engaged in routine patrol around 12pm on February 11th when they observed a black 2009 Dodge Caravan travel southbound on Hyde Park Boulevard with a red expired vehicle inspection sticker.

Officers proceeded to follow the vehicle and activated their emergency lights. However, the vehicle did not pull over. Officers then activated their emergency siren, which only resulted in the driver beginning to gain speed and distance on the police vehicle.

Officers notified dispatch that the vehicle was fleeing southbound on Hyde Park Boulevard. The vehicle swerved in and out of traffic and failed to stop at multiple red lights as he traveled towards Buffalo Avenue causing several potential accidents.

Officers called in the vehicle’s license plate but it appeared to be a fake/forged plate. The vehicle continued fleeing southbound and blew through another red light at the intersection of Hyde Park Boulevard and Buffalo Avenue, continuing straight through the intersection.

The vehicle continued for about 200 feet where it came to a stop due to the roadway being a dead-end. At this time, officers approached the vehicle which had two occupants. The driver was ordered to shut the vehicle off and throw the keys outside of the window. The driver did comply with these demands.

After New York State Troopers arrived to assist, the driver was ordered out of the car where he was secured in handcuffs, placed under arrest, and secured in the rear of a patrol vehicle.

The vehicle was unregistered and uninsured. Police transported the driver to police headquarters for booking and processing.

No further information is available at this time.
