North Tonawanda Man Pleads Guilty to Deadly Attack and Check Theft Scheme

A man from North Tonawanda has entered a guilty plea regarding two serious incidents from 2023, including a deadly stabbing and grand larceny.

John Rudes, 29, admitted to fatally stabbing 59-year-old Terry Jackson of Buffalo multiple times in the neck early on September 17, 2023. The attack occurred around 3:45am at an apartment building on Kenmore Avenue near Colvin Avenue where Jackson was later pronounced dead.

In a separate case from earlier in the year, an investigation revealed that Rudes had stolen several checks from his employer, altering them to make them payable to himself. This theft took place between December 7, 2022, and January 12, 2023, resulting in a loss of $3,763 for the landscaping company.

Rudes pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree manslaughter and fourth-degree grand larceny. As part of his plea agreement, he has committed to paying full restitution to his former employer. He is scheduled for sentencing on March 5th and faces up to 25 years in prison while remaining held without bail.
