Niagara Falls Police responded to Tops on Portage Road around 5pm on June 18th after reports of a shoplifter who was preparing to slap some steaks on the grill that evening.
Upon arrival, police spoke to with an employee who pointed out a white male wearing a black shirt and blue jeans who was about to walk out of the store with unpaid merchandise. Officers placed the male under arrest once he passed all points of purchase without rendering payment.
The male had steaks in bags with a total value of $225.20. Thinking that variety is the spice of life, he took several different cuts of meat. This included, but was not limited to, filet, ribeye, strip, etc..
The male was taken to police headquarters for processing. However, the male lied about his identity to police several times before they were able to find him in their system. It was discovered that he had an open warrant from the Niagara County Sheriff for robbery. He then admitted his real name to police.
He was charged with additional offenses for the theft. It is unknown if he was charged for giving police a false identity. No further information is available.
