Niagara Falls has been granted approximately $400,000 for the renovation of Center Court Pool located at 1500 Centre Ave, Niagara Falls, NY14305. The funds are part of a larger pool of nearly $150 million in capital grants awarded to support 37 projects in underserved communities throughout the state.
This initiative, known as the New York Statewide Investment in More Swimming (NY SWIMS), aims to enhance access to safe swimming facilities for families across New York. The $400,949 allocated for Niagara Falls will be used for various renovations at Center Court Pool. The project includes the replacement of the pool lining, installation of new main drain covers, and the implementation of a new filtration system.
Governor Kathy Hochul expressed enthusiasm for the NY SWIMS initiative highlighting the importance of providing reliable and accessible swimming facilities for families in all regions of the state. The program addresses the clear need for such amenities which will enhance the health and well-being of communities and families statewide.
The $150 million investment in NY SWIMS represents New York's most significant commitment to swimming since the New Deal. The program offers grants ranging from $50,000 to $10 million to assist municipalities in designing, constructing, rehabilitating, or modernizing public swimming facilities. The focus is on supporting disadvantaged and underserved communities that lack access to safe swimming and outdoor recreation opportunities.
Applications for the grants were evaluated based on project need, impact, and viability. In addition to the development of swimming areas, some of the NY SWIMS grant money could be utilized to add splash pads, concession stands, picnic areas, and playgrounds.
Governor Hochul announced last week the first round of funding from the $2 million secured in the 2025 budget.
