The Niagara Falls Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Unit are continuing to work on gathering evidence in their ongoing investigation of a homicide that occurred on Ninth Street on August 24th.
The tragic events unfolded during a "violence remembrance" gathering that celebrates the lives of those who passed away over the years from the 9th street neighborhood. The Niagara Falls Police Department responded to the scene after receiving reports of a shooting around 8:50pm.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a large crowd gathered for the nearby memorial gathering and found 43-year-old Anthony Brantley unresponsive on the front lawn. He had sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and he had already lost a significant amount of blood. Despite life saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives returned to the 400 block of Ninth Street in search of additional evidence that could shed light on potential suspects. It was observed that least one search warrant was executed in the neighborhood. It has not been disclosed what, if any, evidence was recovered.
Witnesses at the scene described the suspect as a male dressed entirely in black with a hoodie pulled over his head. He was last seen running down 9th Street. Additional witnesses who may have observed information related to the incident are still being sought by police.
