Niagara Falls Police had just responded to a burglary call on 100th Street around 6pm on November 1st when an officer was notified by an onlooker that there was a male with a white hat and backpack attempting to gain entry to his truck in a nearby parking lot. The male was last seen walking eastbound on Niagara Falls Boulevard.
Officers canvassed the area and observed a male matching the description. The male was wearing a backpack with a wooden stick hanging out of the back.
Officers told the male to stop and place his hands on the patrol vehicle in an attempt to detain him. The male then dropped his backpack and began to flee on foot disregarding all verbal commands.
Officers chased the male on foot and utilized force to subdue him. While being taken into custody, the male was patted down where it was discovered he had a window puncher took. He was then placed in the rear of a patrol vehicle.
The large stick that was found in his backpack matched the description of one taken in a burglary earlier in the day. The female victim from that burglary walked down to officers – as they were still in the same area - and positively identified him as the male who burglarized her garage and stole items from her car.
Officers transported him to police headquarters for booking and processing. No further information is available.
