Niagara Falls Police responded to the area of Hyde Park Boulevard around 6:00am on Saturday, April 6th after reports of an assault with a weapon where a man was stabbed in the groin.
Upon arrival, police spoke with a male who stated he was leaving Sammy's Pizzeria earlier that morning and walking to his residence when he was approached by a stranger who asked for a cigarette. He told the stranger he did not have any and continued walking. However, the stranger persisted and started following him while continuing to ask.
At this point, the male stated that the stranger was in his personal space and kicked him. The stranger then turned around and stabbed the male in the upper groin area. The stranger fled.
An investigation is ongoing.
