Niagara Falls Man Guilty of Murder in Violent Attack, Sentenced 20 Years to Life

In a shocking case that sent shockwaves through the community, a Niagara Falls man has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for the fatal beating of his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend. The sentencing was announced by the Erie County District Attorney's Office on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place on the night of September 17, 2022, when Buffalo police responded to a fight on the 400 block of Berkshire Avenue. According to officials, Abouycea Thornton, 32, launched a brutal attack on his ex-girlfriend and mercilessly beat her boyfriend with a metal pipe.


The victim, identified as 29-year-old Nickolas Grazes, tragically succumbed to his injuries and lost his life. The female victim suffered injuries to her arm but was treated and released from the hospital.

Thornton pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder in 2023. This admission of guilt led to his sentencing of 20 years to life in prison. The severity of the crime and the loss of a young life weighed heavily in the decision.
