Niagara Falls Man Arrested for Animal Cruelty after Police Discover Suffering Dog

Niagara Falls Police responded to the 2400 block of Cleveland Avenue around 2pm on October 28th after reports of animal cruelty and neglect.

Officers discovered a small multi-colored Chinese crested dog in a white laundry basket on a couch in the living room. The dog, now identified as Chloe, appeared malnourished, dirty and suffering from extreme matting and overgrown nails over an inch long.

Officers observed Chloe to be trembling and excessively licking her lips/snout area, which are both signs of distress. The length of her nails resulted in extreme pain for the dog each time she moved. Officers transported Chloe to the Niagara Falls Municipal Shelter for treatment.

On October 30th, officers made contact with Chloe’s owner who agreed to go to police headquarters for a conversation. After arriving, the owner was read his Miranda Rights. He admitted to owning Chloe and living at the address where she was found.

When asked why the dog was in a poor condition, the owner repeatedly stated that she had “an appointment today for grooming.” He was aware that the dog was in its present condition.

The owner was charged with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals, booked, processed and released with an appearance ticket. No further information is available at this time.
