Six ghost guns were discovered during a search conducted by the Town of Niagara police, according to authorities. The New York State Police reported that a Niagara Falls man is now facing charges after four rifles and two handguns without serial numbers were found.
The investigation began on Wednesday when the Town of Niagara police received a complaint about a suspicious property located at the Expressway Village in the Town of Niagara. During their search, law enforcement officials uncovered multiple ghost guns. Alongside the firearms, police also discovered body armor, a firearm silencer, and a high-capacity magazine.
As a result of the findings, Joshua McClelland, a 42-year-old resident of Niagara Falls, was arrested and charged with various offenses. These charges include criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of an assault weapon, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful purchase of body armor, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Following his arrest, McClelland was taken to the Niagara County Jail where he awaited his arraignment.
The discovery of these ghost guns highlights the ongoing issue of untraceable firearms in our communities. Ghost guns, which are assembled from kits and lack serial numbers, pose a significant challenge for law enforcement agencies in tracking and regulating firearms. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of implementing stricter gun control measures to prevent the proliferation of such weapons.
The Town of Niagara police and the New York State Police are continuing their investigation into the case and further charges may be filed as more information becomes available.
