Niagara Falls Police responded to the 600 block of 17th Street on May 13th after reports of a drunk driver hit and run incident with multiple cars being struck.
Upon arrival, officers observed at least 4-5 cars being struck with heavy passenger side damage and a debris field of at least 100 feet down 17th Street. Officers were met by several frustrated owners and family members, all of which were yelling at once. Additional police units were requested.
Witnesses to the accident stated that a white SUV which was parked just south of the accident field hit these vehicles and 2 of the 3 occupants fled the area.
Officers then spoke with the only remaining individual from the suspect vehicle. She stated she was letting her cousin drive the car, but said she didn’t think the damage was “too bad,” that she knew he “fuc*ed something up,” and that “every airbag popped off.”
The woman did not respond when officers asked where the cousin was now. While speaking with the woman, officers could detect a strong odor of alcoholic beverages emanating from her person.
After talking again with witnesses, it was believed that the woman was driving the vehicle herself and not the cousin. Officers attempted to place the woman under arrest but she attempted to flee. Upon realizing she would not outrun officers, she turned around in a fighting stance, clenched her right fist and struck an officer in the left side of his face.
The woman was then taken into custody and taken to police headquarters for booking.
