A 39-year-old woman from Lockport has been arrested by SPCA Humane Law Enforcement Agents in connection with the starvation of a dog rescued by the Niagara SPCA. The arrest took place on Thursday, December 26th, following the heartbreaking story of a dog named Eve who was found nearly dead on Christmas Eve.
The Niagara SPCA had previously shared distressing images of Eve, highlighting her severe malnourishment and the urgent need for medical attention. Despite the organization's hopes for her recovery, Eve passed away on Christmas Day.
In a poignant message following her death, the Niagara SPCA expressed their commitment to uncovering the truth behind Eve's suffering, stating, "This is the super ugly part of sheltering and rescue. Instead of letting it drag us down, we'll focus on seeking the truth—investigating and prosecuting if the circumstances warrant it."
On December 26th, the SPCA provided an update on the case, revealing that Ashley Pritchard, a resident of Ruhlmann Road in Lockport had been charged with failure to provide proper care for Eve. The offense is a Class A misdemeanor under New York State Agriculture and Markets Law.
The Niagara SPCA emphasized the importance of community involvement in animal welfare, stating, "Together, we make a difference in the lives of animals. Every. Single. Day."
