In a tragic incident that occurred last week, Markus Genovese has entered a plea of not guilty after being charged in a fatal crash that resulted in the death of an 8-year-old child. Genovese, 52, is facing multiple charges in connection with the June 8th incident, including assault, leaving the scene of a fatal auto accident, DWI by the combination of alcohol and narcotics, and first and second-degree vehicular manslaughter.

The incident took place on Route 5 when Genovese allegedly struck a vehicle from behind. The driver of the vehicle had come to a stop to make a left turn onto North Creek Road. Tragically, Thomas Ross, a backseat passenger in the vehicle that was struck, did not survive the crash.

In court on Thursday morning, family members of Thomas Ross were present, wearing orange, which was said to be the young boy's favorite color. The courtroom was filled with emotion as the proceedings unfolded.

Following his court appearance, Genovese was transported back to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC), where he is being held due to his injuries. His felony hearing was waived, and he is scheduled to appear before a grand jury in approximately 45 days.

The community has been deeply affected by this devastating incident, and the loss of a young life has left many grieving.

The legal process will now continue as the case moves forward, with the grand jury set to review the evidence in the coming weeks.

The court proceedings serve as a reminder of the importance of responsible and safe driving. The tragic consequences of this crash highlight the need for vigilance on the roads and the devastating impact that can result from reckless behavior.

As the community mourns the loss of Thomas Ross, support and condolences pour in for his family during this difficult time. The memory of the young boy will forever be cherished, and his tragic passing will serve as a reminder of the importance of road safety for all.
