A Buffalo man has been arrested in connection with a homicide that took place on Monday according to an announcement by the Buffalo Police Department. The incident occurred around 3:45am when officers were dispatched to a residence on the 300 block of Rhode Island Street following a report of a fight.
Upon arrival, they discovered a female victim who had sustained severe lacerations and stab wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the 29-year-old woman, a resident of Buffalo, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, 46-year-old Antonio Prieto, was present at the scene and found with apparent self-inflicted wounds. He was transported by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center where he remains in critical condition under police custody.
Authorities charged Prieto with one count of second-degree murder. The motive behind the incident and the relationship between the suspect and the victim have not been disclosed at this time.
The Buffalo Police Department is urging anyone with additional information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. No further information is available at this time.
