Niagara Falls Police responded to Shorty’s Bar the 2600 block of Pine Avenue around 12:30am on January 4th after reports of an unwanted person that was later changed to criminal mischief.
While en route, dispatch advised officers that the unwanted male party was now smashing windows and had a knife out. When officers arrived on scene, officers were met by numerous security guards yelling that the black male dressed in all black crossing Pine Avenue was the party who smashed the windows to the business.
Police then made contact with the suspect who was attempting to walk away from officers and ignoring numerous verbal commands to stop walking. Officers then attempted to detain the male at which point he refused to comply with officers’ lawful orders to place his hands behind his back. He was then taken into custody by force.
The male was placed into the rear of a marked patrol vehicle and transported to police headquarters for booking and processing.
Officers spoke to the owner who stated that he had just opened Shorty’s Bar the previous night in a soft launch. While there, he and security guards observed the male suspect arguing with a female. When the argument started to escalate, the owner had security ask both parties to leave the establishment.
The female complied but the male suspect did not, which is when security called 911. The male became even more aggressive and security physically removed him from the premises.
Security then locked the doors, which is when the male suspect took out a knife and began hitting the windows on the exterior of the building resulting in four of them breaking. The estimated damage caused is approx. $2,000.
Niagara Falls Fire did respond to the scene to address injuries sustained by the male suspect when force was used to detain him. He refused medical treatment. No further information is available at this time.
