A 46-year-old man is facing a murder charge after being accused of murdering his wife with an axe last month. The Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced the charges against Antonio Prieto on Thursday.
The alleged incident took place in the early morning hours of August 26th at the couple's apartment located on the 300 block of Rhode Island Street. Authorities reported that Prieto's wife, 29-year-old Elibeth Salazar, was found deceased on the bedroom floor. Following the incident, police discovered Prieto in the bathroom with self-inflicted knife wounds. He was transported to ECMC for treatment.
If convicted, Prieto faces a up to 25 years to life in prison. He is currently being held without bail and is scheduled to return to court on October 28th.
