A 22-year-old Buffalo man has been arrested and is facing multiple charges after a disturbance call at an apartment complex in Amherst. According to the Amherst Police, officers responded to a report of a loud party at an apartment complex off of Sweet Home Road on Thursday evening.
Upon arrival, officers were met with a chaotic scene, with more than 150 people gathered around the pool area. The majority of the individuals were determined to not be residents of the complex, according to the police statement. As officers attempted to disperse the crowd, they witnessed a shocking act of recklessness.
The suspect, identified as Jayquan Montgomery, was observed by officers firing fireworks into the crowd of people. This dangerous act put the lives of those present at risk and prompted immediate action from law enforcement.
Montgomery was swiftly apprehended and now faces several charges, including reckless endangerment, unlawful dealing with fireworks, and harassment. Following his arrest, he was released with an appearance ticket at Amherst Town Court.
Authorities have expressed their concern over the incident, emphasizing the potential harm that could have been caused by Montgomery's actions. "Firing fireworks into a crowd is not only illegal but extremely dangerous," stated an Amherst Police spokesperson. "We are grateful that no one was injured as a result of this incident."
