A 38-year-old man has been arrested following an incident in which he allegedly assaulted a 72-year-old school bus driver while children were present on the bus. Buffalo Police announced that Jamieson Lococo was arrested on Monday and charged with multiple crimes including felony assault in the second degree.
The incident reportedly occurred last Wednesday when Lococo was following his child’s school bus after it left Southside Elementary. According to Buffalo Public Schools, the bus driver had pulled over shortly after departure due to misbehavior among students. During the stop Lococo entered the bus through the emergency rear door, which had been opened by a student.
Despite the driver’s repeated warnings that he was not permitted on the bus, Lococo “charged down the aisle,” shoving the elderly driver and causing injuries to her neck, back, and shoulder. In addition to the assault charge, Lococo faces charges of reckless endangerment of a child and harassment in the second degree.
Following the assault, students on the bus were either returned to the vehicle and safely driven home or picked up by their parents. The altercation took place near the intersection of Cumberland Avenue and Salem Street in South Buffalo.
In a statement, Buffalo Public Schools emphasized the importance of safety and used the incident as an opportunity to remind students about the dangers of opening bus doors. The district also expressed appreciation for the Buffalo Police's efforts in holding Lococo accountable for his actions.
