A Buffalo man was arraigned on Tuesday August 28th, facing one count of second-degree murder for the alleged killing of his wife inside their apartment according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office. The incident occurred on Monday around 3:45am when police responded to a reported domestic incident at the couple's residence on the 300 block of Rhode Island Street.

The DA's office stated that Antonio Prieto, 46, is accused of intentionally causing his wife's death by striking her with an axe while inside their apartment. Prieto was also found with apparent self-inflicted knife wounds, seemingly to make it appear as though his actions were in self-defense.

He was transported to Erie County Medical Center by ambulance and is currently in police custody. During the arraignment, Prieto was held without bail and is scheduled to return on August 30th for a felony hearing. If convicted of the highest charge, he could face a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

Further updates on the case will be provided as the investigation progresses.
