Dennis D. Parson, a 20-year-old resident of Buffalo, has entered a guilty plea to the crime of Manslaughter in the First Degree in County Court. The announcement was made by Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman earlier today.
The plea stems from the shooting and killing of 24-year-old Jaylan McWilson on January 21st, 2023, in front of McWilson's home in Niagara Falls. Parson admitted to his involvement in the tragic incident which appeared to be a robbery gone wrong. The motive behind the crime was revealed during the court proceedings.
As a result of his guilty plea, Parson now faces a potential prison sentence of up to 25 years. County Court Judge John Ottaviano is scheduled to deliver the sentence on October 15th.
District Attorney Brian D. Seaman expressed his condolences to the family of Jaylan McWilson, stating, "There was absolutely no reason for this incident to have ended in the loss of Jaylan's life. His family is devastated." Seaman emphasized the senselessness of the crime and the profound impact it has had on the victim's loved ones. He also highlighted the fact that Parson, a young man, will now spend a significant portion of his life behind bars as a consequence of his actions.
The investigation into the case was conducted by the Niagara Falls Police Department who worked diligently to gather evidence and build a case against the defendant. District Attorney Seaman, along with First Assistant District Attorney Doreen Hoffmann, led the prosecution efforts in court.
