Niagara Falls Police responded to the 2000 block of 18th Street around 11:00pm on June 16th after reports of a subject with a gun.
While en route, dispatch advised responding officers that the description of the suspect was a black male with dreads walking with two other black males - one bald and the other with an afro.
Upon arrival, officers observed three males matching the description walking towards an intersection. While catching up to them, one of the male's removed his coat and threw it on the ground trying to get away. Officers then acquired a target on the male with their department-issued firearm. The male immediately placed his hands in the air and followed subsequent commands to get on the ground. Upon searching his person, officers found a 9mm firearm that was not loaded.
The male was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for booking. Charged with gun possession, the male was then released with an appearance ticket.
