On July 28th it was reported that an elevator at the Maid of the Mist had malfunctioned with 19 passengers inside. The Maid of the Mist released the following statement on what occurred:
One of the elevators that transports guests between the Observation Tower and the Maid of the Mist Landing stalled at about 8pm, on Sunday, July 28th, while returning to the tower. There were 18 patrons and 1 elevator operator in the elevator cab. There were no injuries. The elevator was stuck for about 30 to 40 minutes. We apologized to our patrons and refunded the cost of their tickets.
An Otis Elevator Company technician identified the cause of the mechanical issue and made the necessary repairs with an excellent response time.
We thank local police and fire departments for quick response and support.
